Special Dog Stories

We thinks these dogs are extra special and have a story to tell.

Farley & Gramps Story

(Saint Bernards)

Farley (5yrs old) is the rough coated Saint Bernard and Gramps (8yrs old) is the smooth coated Saint Bernard.  Both rescue boys from the RSPCA - the women breeder recently in the news who abandoned 100 Saint Bernards, our 2 are from them. We have had Saint Bernards before but from puppies so these 2 are a whole new ball game!

Looks like Farley & Gramps have found their feet, good luck boys !!!

Badger's Story

(Welsh Border Collie)

Badger now 14 has suffered hair loss for no obvious reason. Other than this he is perfectly happy, healthy dog for his age. His owner wanted a coat to keep him warm and protect him from the elements. Hopefully his own coat will grow back one day.

Lily's Story

(Bichon Frisse)

Lily is a rear leg amputee, her problem was that being very low to the ground, her under belly gets very wet and muddy. She only has three legs, so any coat with leg attachments goes skew whiff!. She also looses balance so the coat needed to be made from very tough fabric.

We made her a special Coat adapted so her stump fitted into a pocket lined with soft fleece and a three way strap to keep every thing in place.

Lauries Story (Jack Russel)

Laurie has epileptic fits which can be bought on by her underside and body getting wet, either through rain or running through wet grass. She is very active so her owner ordered a Bone Dry State of the Art Coat which is has a 4 way stretch, is light in weight and has a full belly panel to keep her dry snug and warm. We are waiting for feedback to see if this has helped reduce the instances of Lauries epileptic attacks when getting wet and we will let you know the outcome in due course.

Sid's Story (Ex Racing Greyhound)

Sid shattered his calcaneus (the hock bone where the achilles tendon attaches) on the first bend of his last race in August 2006.  His vet tried to wire it, but it was impossible to do, so Sid had to lose the leg.  His racing owner paid for all the necessary treatment, on the basis that Sid would then be retired and adopted out, and his trainer found him a home where Sid lived happily for two years.  He was returned to the kennel last November because he was unable to tolerate the little dog next door who apparently teased him. When we went looking for a new dog, his trainer had him living in her house with six others, but he somehow managed to push his way through the crowd to reach his current owner and the rest is history!

He manages very well with three legs, and is still very fast - though he does tire more easily, needs help with jumping up into our motorhome, and never gets on furniture. He is a very happy dog, who is a great ambassador for the breed, going to shows and Meet & Greets and behaving impeccably. He is already a very popular Meet & Greet dog who helps to raise money for greyhound charities, and he's beginning to work on training so that he can be registered as a PAT Therapy dog.  He has the right temperament for it!
